All square for Mahon's boss bow
St. Patrick’s Athletic 1 Cork City 1
Pete Mahon had to settle for a point from his first match in charge of St. Pat's as Cork played for over half the game with 10 men.
Despite the difficulties in organising a coach to take them to Dublin, Cork started well and Davin O’Neill punished poor defending to shoot City in front after just nine minutes.
But it looked to be going wrong for Cork three minutes before the break when defender Greg O’Halloran was sent off for handling Stuart Byrne’s header on the line and Mark Quigley equalised from the resultant penalty.
Not surprisingly, St. Pat’s had much of the ball in the second half but couldn’t find a way past City keeper Mark McNulty who made good saves to deprive Declan O’Brien and Byrne.
