UEFA president Michel Platini’s plan to force clubs in European football to spend no more than they earn was tonight described as “unrealistic” and “impossible” by Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore.

Clubs of a certain size will be obliged to balance their books so they will not be allowed to spend more than the revenue they generate.
