Jason Byrne was Bohemians’ match winner as he came off the bench to score two minutes from time to beat last season’s finalists at The Oval as the Setanta Sports Cup kicked off in earnest.

Glens blew a 16th minute chance of the lead when Richard Clarke blazed a penalty over the top after Ken Oman had taken down Shane McCabe.

But Glens did go in front in this Group 2 opener on 51 minutes when Kyle Neill played Andy Waterworth into the area and he showed great feet to turn and fire a left-foot shot past Brian Murphy.

Bohs were level on 61 minutes when Anto Murphy flicked on Killian Brennan’s corner for defender Jason McGuinness to bundle the ball home from just yards out.

McGuinness inadvertently headed against a post before Byrne hit the winner on 88 minutes.

Murphy’s ball into the box wasn’t dealt with and Oman set up Byrne to slide home from six yards.
