N’Guemo: McGeady vital to Celtic cause

Celtic midfielder Landry N’Guemo believes Aiden McGeady must stay at Parkhead if the club are to wrestle the Premier League title back from Rangers.

Harry Redknapp travelled to Glasgow on Tuesday night for the first leg of the Hoops’ Champions League play-off clash with Arsenal apparently to watch midfielder Scott Brown.

However, it was reported the Tottenham boss left the ground more impressed with McGeady, who was Tony Mowbray’s best player in the 2-0 defeat by the Gunners.

“He is a good player, he is quality,” N’Guemo said. “When he gets the ball, he goes forward with pace and he really helps the team.

“It is up to the gaffer, if he thinks it is better to keep him. But I think he is one of our best players and if we want to win the championship, we have to keep our best players.”

N’Guemo is suspended for Wednesday’s return leg at the Emirates after collecting a yellow card against Arsenal to add to the one he picked up against Dinamo Moscow in the previous round.

The 23-year-old Cameroon international, however, is still confident his team-mates can come back in the tie if they enjoy some of the same good fortune which handed Arsene Wenger’s men their two-goal advantage.

Arsenal defender William Gallas inadvertently diverted a Cesc Fabregas drive past Artur Boruc just before the interval, while Hoops’ skipper Gary Caldwell put through his own goal after the break to all but end Celtic’s hopes of reaching the lucrative group stages.

But N’Guemo remains defiant, saying: “Of course (we can come back) and we will work hard. “I am very disappointed that I will miss the game and I do have a complaint about my booking.

“But, during the game, you can’t think about a possible suspension; you just try and enjoy it. People might have seen that were some difference between the two teams but for me, on the pitch, there was not a lot of difference.

“We were unlucky. They had luck at Parkhead so we hope that we will have lots of luck down there. It will be difficult in England but we will do our best.”
