Owen is part of a much-changed United line-up which also includes Michael Carrick and Park Ji-sung from the side which overcame Birmingham at the weekend.

Despite their opening-day loss at Stoke, Burnley are still riding the crest of a wave generated by that play-off win in May, with £2.8m new-boy Andre Bikey handed his debut.

Burnley: Jensen, Mears, Bikey, Carlisle, Jordan, Blake, McCann, Alexander, Elliott, Steven Fletcher, Paterson.
