Burnley begin with nine of winning side

Burnley fielded nine of their play-off final-winning side as they returned to the top flight after a 33-year absence at Stoke today.

Wembley hero Wade Elliott was among the familiar Clarets faces, while Tyrone Mears and Steven Fletcher were handed debuts in the Barclays Premier League opener.

Fletcher, a £3m signing from Hibernian, started up front alongside Stoke-born former Potters player Martin Paterson.

Stoke began their second season in the Premier League with a new face in midfielder Dean Whitehead, while defender Danny Higginbotham passed a fitness test to feature.
