Gamble nears City exit

Joe Gamble has questioned Cork City’s loyalty towards him after getting just 20% of the 40% wages promised to him over the weekend.

The midfielder cancelled an operation at the Santry Clinic on Friday so he could play against Bohemians and hit out at the club after City’s narrow defeat at Dalymount Park.

Gamble, who is being tracked by several cross-channel clubs including Yeovil, Bradford and Hamilton says that he has to reconsider his future.

“I have to look at my own future and I can’t afford to have an operation now if I am going to leave or if I am going to be on the move,” he says.

“I have no other choice and I am playing through the pain barrier because I need to get myself fit.

“If the club goes forward, I would love to be a part of it, but somehow, I don’t think I will be here much longer.”

Gamble admitted he was fed up with the way he has been treated by the club.

“I am talking to a few clubs but my head is wrecked.

“I was due 40% of my wages today and I end up getting 20% so what loyalty am I being shown?

“I was supposed to have an operation and I cancelled it so that I could play against Bohs and Rovers and what happens, I get p****d on again.

“I am 27 now and I certainly don’t want to go part-time. I worked for 10 years at being a professional despite what people say.

“I have worked very hard to get where I am in life and I just do not want to end up part-time.

“No-one cares about you here boy, you are just a number. The other issue I have is with some fans — they don’t see what’s going on and they still comment on it.”

“They think they have the right to comment, but let me tell that you that anyone who is due six weeks wages and gets paid 20% — then come back to me — and let me know how you feel about it.

“I don’t want to go — that’s the truth but what future have I at the club. If we are told that we will get paid for 42 weeks of the year — what am I going to do for the other 10 weeks?”
