Dundalk triumph in Louth derby
Dundalk 4 Drogheda United 2
Alex Williams scored twice as Dundalk made it five wins from their last six games to win a pulsating Louth derby at Oriel Park.
Ger Rowe put Dundalk in front on 22 minutes when showing good control from Kevin McKinlay’s ball into the box to shoot into the bottom corner of the net.
But Drogheda responded to level within nine minutes; Brendan McGill’s free-kick on the left was glanced home off the head of defender Conor Kenna.
Drogheda’s new signing Scott Gibb then ruined his debut by getting himself sent off for a second booking on 36 minutes.
Dundalk used the numerical advantage to take control with Chris Turner slotting home his eighth goal of the season from a 58th minute penalty.
Six minutes later, recent signing Williams sealed the win when making it 4-1 with his fourth goal in as many matches.
Drogheda's Shane Barrett missed an 86th minute penalty to end any revival hopes, leaving midfielder James Chambers' last minute goal as mere consolation.
