Michael Owen on the bench

Michael Owen started life at Manchester United on the bench as the Red Devils opened their Far East tour.

With Wayne Rooney and £30.75m man Dimitar Berbatov starting in attack, Owen had to make do with a place among the substitutes as United tackled a Malaysian XI in Kuala Lumpur.

Republic of Ireland star Darron Gibson was also included, along with Anderson and Nani, who both have plenty to prove over the coming months.

Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher were among those who were not involved, with Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Wes Brown joining Owen on an eight-man bench.
