Former England international Teddy Sheringham is in talks with Beckenham Town, according to the Kent League outfit.

The 43-year-old, who is wanted for the club’s FA Vase games next season, has not played since a spell with Colchester at the end of the 2007/08 season.

Beckenham’s chairman Chris McCarthy told the club’s website: “I’m having talks with Teddy about the situation but these things do take a lot of sorting out.

“I’m really hopeful that between us we can make the situation become a reality. It’s an enormously exciting prospect.”

Sheringham, winner of 51 caps for England, was a Champions League winner with Manchester United in 1999.
