Rovers stride past Drogs
Drogheda United 0 Shamrock Rovers 3
Tadhg Purcell hit a double to book Shamrock Rovers passage through to the fourth round as they beat Drogheda United 3-0 in a third round replay at United Park.
Though both sides had a share of the ball, Rovers were far more direct in front of goal and good value for their interval lead.
Left-back Ian Bermingham brought a terrific save from Drogs keeper Paul Skinner on 18 minutes before the Hoops deservedly took the lead ten minutes later.
Purcell got free down the right wing to cross and Dessie Baker arrived to score with a brave diving header for his fifth goal of the season.
Purcell put Rovers two up on 83 minutes when cutting inside a defender to drill home before sealing the win six minutes later when lobbing Skinner.
