Boro linked to Purovic

Middlesbrough have been linked with a move for teenage Serbian striker Rajko Purovic.

Middlesbrough have been linked with a move for teenage Serbian striker Rajko Purovic.

The 18-year-old’s representatives claim talks are to take place between his current club, FK Banat Zrenjanin and the Teessiders over a possible move.

Boro have worked hard to build up their European scouting network in recent years and have fostered links in Serbia.

They brought 20-year-old FK Kosice midfielder Nemanja Matic over to England on trial last season, and could do the same with the £2m-rated youngster.

Boro’s interest in the player emerged as they begin to reshape their squad for life in the Coca-Cola Championship.

They seem certain to be without Turkey international Tuncay Sanli, who has told the Turkish press he wants to remain in England, but is looking to stay in the Barclays Premier League.

Tuncay said: “My team have been relegated, but my aim is to remain in the Premier League.

“I love Fenerbahce and if one day I return to Turkey, it will be with Fenerbahce.”

Liverpool have been touted as possible buyers, while Chelsea were linked with Tuncay in January, although Boro are yet to receive any formal offers for the player.
