Twigg brace gives Rovers win at St Pat's

Having hit a hat-trick last week, Gary Twigg scored on the double as Shamrock Rovers made it three wins in four games to move joint-third in the Premier Division table.

Ryan Guy blew a chance to put Saints in front against the run of play when shooting against a post on 37 minutes.

Twigg then came alive to rattle the crossbar and fire just wide inside a minute.

But the Scot wasn’t to be denied and he hooked home from Shane Robinson’s flick on 50 minutes.

Saints’ Mark Quigley had a header off a post before blazing over the bar when clean through.

Twigg sealed the win, though, on 73 minutes, holding off a defender from Dessie Baker’s flick to drive the ball home.
