Players come back to haunt Sligo
Sligo Rovers 1 Dundalk 3
Dundalk got their season up and running as three Sligo old boys scored the goals to see to Rovers’ downfall at the Showgrounds tonight.
Dundalk, now managed by one-time Sligo boss Sean Connor, were the better side throughout with ex-Rovers’ midfielder Chris Turner rattling the home crossbar on 17 minutes.
Darren Mansaram, one of four former Sligo players in the Lilywhites side, then shot home the opener on 38 minutes after George O’Callaghan dinked a Shaun Kelly free kick into the Sligo area.
Dundalk doubled their lead on 64 minutes when defender Liam Burns arrived to head home off a post from Harpal Singh’s free-kick.
Turner then put Dundalk 3-0 up on 76 minutes when drilling home Mansaram’s pass to seal the points.
Sligo got a goal back within a minute through Rafael Cretaro.
The Rovers striker then won a penalty after he was fouled by Kelly on 88 minutes, but Owen Morrison fired his spot kick over the bar.
Dundalk's second win of the season moves them up to sixth in the table, while Sligo, still without a win in five games, remain second bottom.
