Giovanni Trappatoni returned to Italy determined to play David to Marcello Lippi’s Goliath.

The 70-year-old was swift to acknowledge his Republic of Ireland side will be overwhelming underdogs when they run out to face the world champions at the San Nicola Stadium in Bari tomorrow evening.
