Farren strike gives Derry win over Drogs

Mark Farren scored the only goal of the night, but the Derry striker should have helped himself to a hat-trick as the Candystripes got off to a winning start against an all-new Drogheda at the Brandywell.

Farren struck after just eight minutes when he latched onto Sammy Morrow’s through ball to round visiting keeper Steve Williams and slide the ball home.

Farren had further chances on 36 and 72 minutes while also shooting wide after Gareth McGlynn’s shot came back off the bar late on.
