Nakamura looks further afield

Celtic midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura has revealed he is considering a fresh challenge next season.

Celtic midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura has revealed he is considering a fresh challenge next season.

The Japan playmaker had initially been expected to return to his homeland to play for Yokohama Marinos, the club which helped him launch his career.

Last month the 30-year-old revealed he had not decided what to do when his Celtic contract expires at the end of the season, and did not rule out extending his four-year stay in Glasgow.

Now the former Reggina player, who scored a hat-trick in Celtic’s 7-0 Clydesdale Bank Premier League win over St Mirren on Saturday, has admitted he may move to another country at the end of the campaign.

He said: “In January, I could have moved back to Yokohama Marinos but the transfer money was not available because it is not a good situation economically with Nissan, the club sponsors.

“Now I just want to concentrate on the league. You never know, I might go to a different league and not Japan. Nothing has been decided on my future yet.”
