Police in the UK are confident they can cope with the tens of thousands of Manchester United and Manchester City supporters who will converge on London on Sunday.

United face Tottenham in the Carling Cup final at Wembley at 3pm while City play West Ham at Upton Park in the Barclays Premier League at 1230pm.

A police spokesman said: “The Metropolitan Police is hugely experienced in policing football, frequently policing several matches in one day and the streams of fans that pass through and around the capital.

“An appropriate policing operation will be maintained on the day."
