Maldini relieved at Kaka decision

Kaka’s team-mates are delighted with his decision to remain at AC Milan instead of accepting a world record transfer to Manchester City.

Kaka’s team-mates are delighted with his decision to remain at AC Milan instead of accepting a world record transfer to Manchester City.

Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi issued a statement on Monday evening to say that the club had been willing to sell the Brazil international to City but that Kaka made it very clear he did not want to leave.

The Rossoneri playmaker turned down the chance of a reported £500,000-a-week salary to remain at the San Siro and veteran defender Paolo Maldini is glad he did so.

“There was a point in which I feared that he would leave because I really didn’t expect this situation to arise,” said the Milan captain.

“Fortunately, it has ended well. Kaka has an incredible effect on children. My son Christian started crying when he heard the news and when he found out he was staying he was really happy.”

Andriy Shevchenko, who left the San Siro two years ago to move to Chelsea only to return last summer to the Rossoneri outfit, said: “Kaka has done the right thing. Kaka did ask me many questions but his situation and my situation are somewhat different.

“I believe he chose what was in his heart. With him, Milan are always stronger.”
