Middlesbrough midfielder Josh Walker faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after it was today confirmed he suffered torn ankle ligaments during Saturday’s clash with Sunderland.

Making his first start in the Barclays Premier League and seen as a bright prospect for the future, the 19-year-old was forced off early in the second half of the 1-1 draw.

A specialist determined the England youth international has torn lateral ligaments in his left ankle, with the club refusing to put a timescale on his absence as the injury is still being assessed.

Fellow midfielder Didier Digard, who was taken off after 65 minutes after taking a heavy blow to the head, will be fit for Saturday’s trip to West Brom.
