Birmingham have allowed former Arsenal striker Quincy Owusu-Abeyie to return to Spartak Moscow.

Quincy’s six-month loan at St Andrew’s came to an end today and Birmingham manager Alex McLeish opted not to pursue an extension.

Former Scotland boss McLeish now intends to raid the winter transfer market using the funds he will save by allowing Quincy to leave.

McLeish said: “We thank Quincy for his efforts and wish him well for the future. Having made this decision we will now continue to work to strengthen the squad.

“His deal was an expensive one for just one player and we will now look to use the money to bring in new faces.”

Quincy, 22, scored three goals in his short spell with the Coca-Cola Championship promotion hopefuls.
