The Brazilian international missed Sunday’s Barclays Premier League defeat at West Brom which left City in the relegation places but has recovered from an ankle problem and has trained well this week, according to manager Mark Hughes.

Daniel Sturridge has also returned to training but will not be ready to face Hull, while striker Benjani Mwaruwari will miss the Christmas programme with a thigh strain. Darius Vassell faces a late fitness test after picking up a toe injury at the Hawthorns.
