SFA extend winter transfer window

The Scottish Football Association today announced this season’s January transfer window has been extended until 5pm on Monday, February 2.

The Scottish Football Association today announced this season’s January transfer window has been extended until 5pm on Monday, February 2.

The move, which has also been confirmed by the Scottish Premier League, has been brought about because January 31 falls on a Saturday next year.

It is the second time this season the SFA have followed the Football Association’s lead by extending the transfer window after August’s deadline was moved forward to September 1 as August 31 fell on a Sunday.

SFA head of communications Rob Shorthouse said: “Leagues across Europe are moving their January transfer deadline so that it falls on a working day.

“This is a decision that makes perfect sense for players, clubs and for those who administer the game.”

SPL company secretary Iain Blair added: “January can be a busy month for our clubs and we will be geared up and ready to support them.

“Given that the end of the month falls on a Saturday, it was decided to give our clubs another working day to finalise any last-minute transfer activity.”
