Derby suspend Carroll

Derby have suspended goalkeeper Roy Carroll for two weeks following a “heated verbal exchange” with manager Paul Jewell.

Chairman Adam Pearson has confirmed action has been taken over the incident that took place after Saturday’s home defeat to Crystal Palace, but insists Carroll’s career is far from over.

Pearson told the Derby Evening Telegraph: “There was an incident. Football is an emotional game and we were poor on Saturday.

“I think things were said in the dressing room that are best left, but the manager believes Roy took it too far and too many things have been said for it to be left alone.

“So rather than fine him, Roy has been suspended for two weeks and will then come back into the frame after a cooling-off period.

“It was a heated verbal exchange – they did not come to blows. It was just one of those heated arguments that happen many times in football dressing rooms particularly after a defeat, but the manager felt this one went a little too far and so that is why we have taken this action.

“Roy’s form has been good this season and he still has a place in the squad going forward.”
