Derry put down marker ahead of FAI Cup final

Derry City 4 Cobh Ramblers 2

Mark Farren maintained his goal rush with his 15th and 16th league strikes of the season as Derry breezed past relegated Cobh.

Farren struck after just six minutes when latching onto Niall McGinn's cross to slide the ball past Anthony Fennelly.

Kevin Deery shot home the second from 30 yards 12 minutes later with McGinn adding a third on 23 minutes to appear to finish the match as a contest.

But Ross Gaynor pulled a goal back just before half time with Davin O'Neill then giving Cobh hope with a second on 69 minutes.

Farren fittingly had the final say, however, to seal Derry's win with his second goal of the night seven minutes from time.
