Alex (thigh), Julian Belletti (ankle), Franco Di Santo (hamstring), Ricardo Carvalho (knee), Michael Essien (knee), and Joe Cole (hamstring) are all out.

Left-back Ashley Cole is fit enough to travel along with Michael Ballack but both are likely to start on the bench.
