Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear has been asked to explain his comments after branding Martin Atkinson a “Mickey Mouse” referee.

The Football Association today confirmed it has written to the 61-year-old interim manager in the wake of Sunday’s 2-1 Barclays Premier League defeat at Fulham.
