Murphy gives Cork win over St Pat's

St. Patrick's Athletic 0 Cork City 1

Having been crowned unofficial All-Ireland champions at the weekend, Cork maintained their push for Europe as St. Pat's woes continued with a fourth successive home defeat.

His mistake having almost cost them a goal in the first half, left-back Danny Murphy proved Cork's unlikely matchwinner from a cleverly worked free-kick on the hour.

Joe O'Cearuill was booked for a clumsy challenge on Denis Behan.

Pat Sullivan dummied to take the free and Murphy arrived to drill the ball low and hard to the corner of the net.

The win moves Cork up to fourth place in the table and a win over Sligo Rovers at home on Friday would confirm their place in the new-fangled Europa League next season.

St. Pat's remain second, three points ahead of Derry whom they host next Monday.
