Smith gives backing to Burley

Scottish Football Association chief executive Gordon Smith has assured George Burley that his job is safe – regardless of the outcome of the World Cup qualifier against Norway.

Smith conceded that defeat at Hampden tomorrow could provide a fatal blow to Scotland’s qualification hopes but was keen to ease the pressure on the national team coach ahead of the crucial encounter.
