Late penalty lifts Cobh off bottom of the table
Cobh Ramblers 1 Shamrock Rovers 0
A late Ross Gaynor penalty earned Cobh a second home win of the season over Shamrock Rovers to lift them off the foot of the table and give their hopes of avoiding relegation a boost.
All the action was crammed into the last 12 minutes as Cobh took the lead.
Daryl Kavanagh was taken down by Rovers' keeper Robert Duggan and Gaynor sent Duggan the wrong way from the spot.
Rovers' midfielder Simon Madden then shot against the angle of the crossbar and post four minutes later before Cobh might have doubled their winning margin on 86 minutes.
John Kearney's cross was met by the head of Kavanagh with Rovers' defender Danny O'Connor clearing off the line.
