Brian King's goal ended a run of five defeats in succession as UCD gave their hopes of avoiding the drop a big boost with victory over the outgoing champions.

UCD's bright start brought the reward of the game's only goal on 15 minutes.

Joe Kendrick and Graham Gartland both failed to clear a cross from Pat McWalter and King's persistence paid off as he crashed a right-foot shot to the net form 14 yards.

Matt Gregg then kept College in the game with superb saved in either half from Ollie Cahill and Shane Robinson.
