Hamburg set pace in Bundesliga
Hamburg went top of the Bundesliga today as Bayern Munich continued to struggle under new boss Jurgen Klinsmann.
With leaders Schalke having slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Cologne on Friday night, top spot was up for grabs and Hamburg made the most of the opportunity, sealing a 1-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach courtesy of Mladen Petric’s 11th-minute goal.
Bayern slipped to their second consecutive league defeat, losing 1-0 at Hannover.
Ten-man Bremen scored five for the second successive weekend as they squeezed past Hoffenheim 5-4, despite throwing away a 4-1 lead.
Bayer Leverkusen held on for a 3-2 win at Bochum who recovered from 3-0 down only to see their hopes of snatching a point dashed when Anthar Yahia was sent off four minutes from time.
Elsewhere, goals from Tamas Hajnal (11), Felipe Santana (20) and Alexander Frei (75) gave Borussia Dortmund a 3-0 win over Stuttgart, while Energie Cottbus claimed an impressive 1-0 win at Hertha Berlin thanks to Branko Jelic’s 13th-minute strike.
