Whelan set for start

Stoke will be without the suspended Amdy Faye for Sunday's visit of Everton after he was sent off in the defeat at Middlesbrough, so Irish international Glenn Whelan could come into the side.

Steve Simonsen could make his first Premier League start of the season against his former club at the Britannia Stadium.

Simonsen, who spent almost six years with the Merseysiders before his free transfer to Stoke in July 2004, has yet to feature for the Potters but could get his chance as summer signing Thomas Sorensen watched Denmark’s victory over Portugal in midweek from the sidelines with a back problem.
