Cork City have been granted examinership by the High Court as the club struggles to overcome its financial problems.

The Leesiders are believed to have run up debts of around €1.3m.

Cork have recently sold David Meyler to Sunderland in an effort to raise cash and are also due to sell Dave Mooney to Reading for €400,000.

Kieran McCarthy, the man who helped save Shamrock Rovers from collapse in 2005, has been appointed interim examiner to help clear Cork's debts and rescue the club from meltdown.
