Reported Arsenal target Marcos Senna has asked his club Villarreal not to sell him.

The 31-year-old Brazil-born midfielder caught the eye at Euro 2008 this summer during Spain’s march to the title, and as such now finds himself on the wanted list of a number of Europe’s top clubs.

Senna claims he is aware of the interest in him, but has asked club president Fernando Roig not to be tempted to cash in should a club offer the 36million euros stipulated in his release clause.

“Last Tuesday I had dinner with club president Fernando Roig Alfonso and I asked him not to let me go,” he told Spanish website Terra.

“I want to stay at Villarreal and I know that there are rumours flying around about interest from other clubs.”

On Friday Roig was quoted in British tabloid Daily Star as saying: “We are not worried by the interest from other clubs (in Senna) as we have increased his release clause to 36million euros.

“This is what someone will have to play if they want to take him.”
