Rounds makes Toffees switch

Everton have confirmed Steve Round as their new assistant manager after several days of negotiations between the Toffees and his former club Newcastle.

The 37-year-old joins up with the Merseyside club after spending one season at St James’ Park and will fill the assistant manager’s role under David Moyes which has been vacant since Alan Irvine became Preston boss in November.

A compensation deal is believed to have been thrashed out allowing Round to leave the north east after the Magpies had blocked previous attempts to conclude the move because they insisted he was not out of contract.

Now Round is looking forward to working with Moyes and told evertonTV: “Once David asked me, and I met him, it was a definite.

“He sold me the club, he sold me the ideas, he sold me how he was moving it forward and how he wanted to take the next step.

“I said I would definitely come and here we are.”

Round moved from Middlesbrough when Gareth Southgate took over and was Sam Allardyce’s first appointment to his own coaching staff at Newcastle this time last year.
