Manchester United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak has been forced to withdraw from the Poland squad for Euro 2008 after suffering a back injury in training.

The 26-year-old, who was vying for the number one jersey with Celtic's Artur Boruc and Arsenal's Lukasz Fabianski, underwent an MRI scan and was subsequently ruled out for three weeks.

Coach Leo Beenhakker has requested permission to call up Wojciech Kowalewski as Kuszczak's replacement.

It is the latest injury blow for Poland, who open their Group B campaign against Germany on Sunday, following the withdrawal of midfielder Jakub Blaszczykowski.
