Tigers decline Okocha option

Hull have confirmed Nigerian playmaker Jay-Jay Okocha will not participate in their debut season in the Barclays Premier League.

The Tigers had the option of taking up a further year on the 34-year-old’s contract after it expired at the end of the season but have decided against it.

Okocha managed only 11 appearances last season which saw the Tigers seal top-flight football for the first time in the club’s 104-year history with a play-off final win over Bristol City at Wembley.

Manager Phil Brown told the Hull Daily Mail: “What Jay-Jay Okocha brought to the club is a sense of belief and ability. That undoubtedly raised the belief of the other players and the profile of the club.

“The legacy Jay-Jay Okocha will leave at Hull City is one of success. He will be remembered for his smile, his pure ability as a footballer and for raising a club’s aspirations.”

The Tigers have also confirmed David Livermore will leave along with youngsters Brewster Frizzell and Frank Belt.
