Win by Derry City drops UCD into relegation zone

Derry kept pace with the leaders in third place with their biggest win of the season as UCD dropped into the relegation zone.

Derry flew out of the blocks to take the lead within 90 seconds.

Stand-in UCD keeper Billy Brennan could only parry a shot from Owen Morrison and Mark Farren scooped home his fifth goal of the season.

College levell on the half hour when Timmy Purcell's 25 yard shot beat Gerard Doherty in the Derry goal.

But Derry hit back within four minutes of the restart when Niall McGinn scored his first goal for the club, rifling to the top corner of the net from 16 yards.

Man of the match Owen Morrison drove home from long range to make it 3-1 on 56 minutes with Kevin McHugh completing the rout in the final minute.
