Jeff Kenna's bottom of the table Galway earned a hugely encouraging point as they frustrated Derry at the Brandywell.
Galway took the game to Derry and might have taken a 12th minute lead.
John Russell worked the opening to set up Stephen O'Flynn, but the former Derry striker ballooned his shot wide of the target.
Derry keeper Gerard Doherty had to save well from Derek O'Brien on the hour as Galway remained the better side into the second half with Derry, you sensed, happy with a point at the finish.
