Wigan hold Chelsea scoreless in first half

Stubborn Wigan stifled the life out of lacklustre Chelsea as the Blues failed to break the deadlock in a disappointing opening half at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea came closest to scoring but Wigan goalkeeper Chris Kirkland pulled off a fine save to deny Nicolas Anelka.

Wigan had their chances and Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech – wearing a protective head guard and chin strap following his recent facial injury – was forced to dive low to his left to keep out a shot from Antonio Valencia.
