Schalke on Sunday sacked coach Mirko Slomka.
The Gelsenkirchen club went out of the Champions League to Barcelona last Wednesday but the final straw for the Schalke board came with Saturday’s 5-1 thrashing at Werder Bremen.
Slomka, who took over as coach in 2006, leaves with the club third in the Bundesliga.
