Cork were left to rue missed chances in either half as they were held scoreless by Setanta Sports Cup holders Drogheda at Turner's Cross.
Alan Mathews Leesiders enjoyed much of the possession and created the only clear-cut chance in the first half on 32 minutes.
John O'Flynn worked a good one-two with George O'Callaghan only to scuff his shot which was parried away by Drogheda keeper Mikko Vilmunen.
Drogheda responded immediately with Cork defender Darragh Ryan clearing off the toe of Eamon Zayed.
Cork again carved out the best chance of the second half on 77 minutes. O'Callaghan picked out Liam Kearney, but the little winger planted his diving header just wide of Vilmunen's post.
Drogheda had a late shout for a penalty waved away by referee Dave McKeon when Shane Robinson was pushed over by Joe Gamble.
In the other Group 1 game, Cliftonville and Dungannon Swifts also played out a 0-0 draw at Solitude.
