Goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi and defender Gary Cahill were the only survivors from Thursday’s 1-0 UEFA Cup last-16 second-leg defeat at Sporting Lisbon.

Kevin Nolan returned from a back injury to captain the Whites, with Gretar Steinsson, Andy O’Brien, Ricardo Gardner, Tamir Cohen, Ivan Campo, Matt Taylor, El- Hadji Diouf and Kevin Davies also included.

In stark contrast, Wigan boss Steve Bruce named an unchanged line-up for the third successive game.
