D'Urso admits to red-card error - Stoke

Stoke claim referee Andy D’Urso has admitted he was wrong to send Potters defender Andy Griffin off in their 3-0 defeat at QPR.

The Football Association have confirmed they have received a claim for wrongful dismissal from the Championship club after Griffin was shown a red card for his challenge on Hogan Ephraim at Loftus Road yesterday.

Griffin appeared to make little contact with midfielder Ephraim, and City’s football administrator Eddie Harrison said the match official was reconsidering his decision after viewing it on video.

He told www.stokecityfc.com: “The Football Association have confirmed to Stoke City that the referee has reconsidered the matter after watching the incident again.

“His views will be submitted to the regulatory commission tomorrow along with the submission from the club.

“While it doesn’t automatically mean his suspension will be uplifted, but the fact that he has now indicated that the matter was only worthy of a caution stands us in good stead.”

Stoke’s claim will be heard by a regulatory commission tomorrow and Griffin will hope to avoid a three-match ban.

Potters boss Tony Pulis said after the game: “The player was not put in any danger by that challenge. Andy D’Urso didn’t have the best view of it and has agreed to have a look at the video.”
