Diouf on the bench for Bolton
Bolton manager Gary Megson left first leg hero El-Hadji Diouf on the bench for tonight’s UEFA Cup last-32 second leg against Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon.
Diouf scored the only goal of last week’s meeting at the Reebok Stadium, but he and former Real Madrid player Ivan Campo were named as substitutes for the return encounter.
Meanwhile, young midfielder Danny Guthrie dropped out completely, with Stelios Giannakopoulos, Gavin McCann and Joey O’Brien taking their places in the starting line-up.
Atletico were unable to call on teenage striker Sergio Aguero after UEFA yesterday banned him for two matches following his red card in last week’s first leg for spitting.
Also missing for the Spanish side was suspended midfielder Raul Garcia and injured quintet Leo Franco, Georgios Seitaridis, Juan Valera, Thiago Motta and winger Simao Sabrosa.
However, former Liverpool forward Luis Garcia returned following suspension and he joined ex-Manchester United striker Diego Forlan and Arsenal old boy Jose Antonio Reyes in Atletico’s starting line-up.
