Davie Irons has resigned as head coach of Clydesdale Bank Premier League basement side Gretna.

The Borders club have confirmed both Irons and his assistant Derek Collins have resigned with immediate effect.

Reports today suggest Irons is the leading candidate to succeed Jim McInally at Irn-Bru First Division club Morton.
