European football’s governing body UEFA are confident that Wednesday night’s Champions League last-16 clash between Fenerbahce and Sevilla will go ahead despite heavy snow in Istanbul.

The Sukru Saracoglu pitch is reportedly covered in 30 centimetres of snow and a pitch inspection is scheduled to take place on Tuesday afternoon,

But UEFA believe the first-leg tie is not in danger of being called off.

“It looks promising that the match will take place as scheduled,” a UEFA spokesperson told PA Sport on Monday. “We’re confident it will go ahead.

“There’s a delegation on site at the moment and they will make the final decision tomorrow, but we don’t expect there to be a problem.”
