Davis coup for Rangers

Rangers have taken Fulham midfielder Steve Davis on loan for the rest of the season but missed out on their main target on deadline day.

Northern Ireland international Davis, 23, adds strength to the Rangers squad and will provide fresh competition for the likes of Brahim Hemdani and Charlie Adam.

He has started 22 matches in the Barclays Premier League this season, having joined Fulham for £4m from Aston Villa in July, but Cottagers boss Roy Hodgson opted to let him go.

Rangers manager Walter Smith was unable to persuade Italian striker Andrea Caracciolo to move to Ibrox, however, during discussions earlier in the day.

Smith flew to Milan to meet Caracciolo but the twice-capped 26-year-old opted to join his former club, Serie B side Brescia.
