Rangers target Samp striker

Rangers have targeted Sampdoria striker Andrea Caracciolo and hope to make him their big signing before the transfer window closes.

The 6ft 4in Italian is currently playing in Serie A for Sampdoria, who he joined from Palermo last summer.

Sampdoria and Palermo share ownership of the 26-year-old and it is unclear whether Rangers are trying to sign the twice-capped Italy frontman on loan terms or permanently.

Rangers officials arrived in Milan at lunchtime to discuss the deal, with Caracciolo’s agent Andrea D’Amico confirming the Light Blues’ interest.

However Torino are also reported to be keen on Caracciolo and they could scupper Rangers’ ambitious raid.

Daniel Cousin’s move to Fulham remained in the balance this afternoon.

FIFA have still to make a ruling on whether Cousin can move to the Barclays Premier League.

Because Cousin played 20 minutes of a French league game for Lens prior to joining Rangers, FIFA’s regulation preventing players appearing for three clubs during one season has put an obstacle in the way of the deal.

Rangers were hopeful of receiving a decision from FIFA this afternoon, and world football’s governing body indicated an announcement would be made soon.

The Ibrox club hope Cousin will be given special dispensation to make the move.

A £3m deal is in place for Cousin, with FIFA’s authorisation believed to be all that stands in the way of it proceeding.
